Owls ride luck but it’s three wins in a row

Two goals from the unlikely figure of Vincent Sasso gave Wednesday another valuable three points at home to Blackburn as we continued our play-off push with a third successive victory.

His fine close-range volley on 18 minutes put the Owls in front and, although Sam Hutchinson turned the ball into his own net two minutes later, Sasso headed us back in front just before half-time.

Overall, it was another stuttering display from Wednesday and we were hanging on at times in the closing stages, Blackburn hitting the bar through Marvin Emnes and then having Hope Akpan sent off for pushing referee Scott Duncan after his effort was ruled out, seemingly for handball.

However, another three points keeps us in sixth spot, four points clear of seventh-placed Norwich with a game in hand, and six ahead of Fulham and Barnsley who are immediately below the Canaries.

Victories for the three teams above us means we remain two points behind Leeds, with a game in hand, trail Reading by five points, who have also played a game more, and are six behind third-placed Huddersfield.

Leaders Newcastle are 11 points clear of us, with second-placed Brighton 10 points ahead, after they were both held to draws.
