Owls held after more injury-time drama

Wednesday were on the wrong end of late goal drama for the second successive week in our 2-2 home draw with Swansea on Saturday afternoon.

Morgan Fox’s close-range volley in the 92nd minute looked to have completed a winning comeback from one-down, only for the visitors to snatch a last-gasp equaliser.

Keiren Westwood had produced a tremendous reflex save from George Byers but he failed to deal with the ensuing corner and Ben Wilmot was at the far post to steer home.

Wednesday remain in seventh position on 25 points, one outside the play-off places but eight points adrift of leaders West Brom.

We dominated the opening half-hour and could easily have been ahead during that spell, Jacob Murphy, Steven Fletcher and Atdhe Nuhiu all going close before Fletcher sent a header against the post.

However, soon after that the visitors took the lead against the run of play, Westwood failing to hold onto a Swansea corner and Andre Ayew turning home the loose ball.

Wednesday continued to threaten after the break and almost equalised on the hour when Fletcher’s header was kept out by keeper Freddie Woodman and Murphy smashed the rebound against the inside of the upright, the ball then flying across goal and to safety.

Swansea had their own openings in the second half with Wilmot hitting the woodwork and Westwood saving well from Connor Roberts.

However, Wednesday were not to be denied and levelled with nine minutes left. Adam Reach cut in from the right and when Woodman could only parry his effort from the edge of the box,, Kieran Lee was on hand to turn the ball back for Fernando Forestieri to steer home from six yards.

Then, with the game going into the 92nd minute, Hillsborough erupted when Fox smashed the ball home from Barry Bannan’s corner to put us ahead.

That looked to have clinched what would have been a well-deserved three points, only for Swansea to grab that late point through Wilmot.

Wednesday: Westwood, Palmer, Lees, Iorfa, Fox, Murphy (Reach 75), Bannan, Lee, Harris (Rhodes 83), Fletcher, Nuhiu (Forestieri 66). Unused subs. Dawson, Odubajo, Thorniley, Pelupessy. Att: 23,073
