Owls eye safety zone as Chansiri says ‘Pulis was mistake’

Neil Thompson continues in his caretaker manager role as Wednesday look to move out of the Championship bottom three when we entertain in-form Derby at Hillsborough on Friday evening.

Thompson, who began his temporary role in the hotseat with a win over Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, awaits fitness updates on Adam Reach (hamstring) and Joost van Aken (groin) – both absent against Boro – before deciding on his line-up.

Julian Borner and Massimo Luongo are still ruled out through injury for a game which would see us leapfrog Derby and Forest into the safety of 20th place if we can complete a third successive home win.

The match is live on Sky Sports and kicks off at 5.30pm.

Meanwhile, chairman Dejphon Chansiri told a lengthy press conference on Thursday that he had received plenty of interest in the manager’s job, left vacant following the sacking of Tony Pulis on Monday night after just 46 days in charge.

Chansiri was highly critical of Pulis during the conference and said: “I need to bring in the right one. I thought Pulis was the right one but I was totally wrong. I can’t make a mistake this time.

“After I sacked Pulis, many offers came in but I can only choose one. I need to make sure it is the right one. We are still working. I will try to make a decision as soon as possible.

“My people need to help me make a shortlist and then we’ll look at it. Then we’ll start to interview. This time we need to think more and more. I don’t want any surprises again.”
