Owls exit FA Cup after replay defeat

Two second-half goals ended Wednesday’s FA Cup run at a freezing Swansea on Tuesday evening.

We had the better of the first-half, with Jacob Butterfield forcing an excellent save out of Kristoffer Nordfeldt and Lucas Joao then twice testing the keeper, while Swansea hardly troubled Cameron Dawson at the other end.

The introduction of substitute Jordan Ayew at half-time proved the turning point for the home side, the striker turning the ball home on 55 minutes after Tom Carroll’s shot had come back off both posts.

Wednesday rallied briefly without forcing a save out of Nordfeldt and Swansea wrapped up the tie 10 minutes from time when Dave Jones lost the ball inside his own half and Tammy Abraham put Nathan Dyer through to score their second goal.

Dawson, Hunt (Palmer 38), Venancio, Loovens, Pudil, Boyd, Jones, Butterfield (Nuhiu 68), Reach, Rhodes (Abdi 82), Joao. Unused subs: Wildsmith, Fox, Baker, Pelupessy.
