Owls denied win after late, late equaliser

An own goal from David Jones five minutes into injury time denied Wednesday a third successive win for caretaker boss Lee Bullen at high-flying West Brom.

Atdhe Nuhiu had given us a fifth minute lead, shooting home from close range following a far post knock back by Morgan Fox from a corner, and we might easily have been further ahead before half time with home keeper Sam Johnstone denying Marco Matias and Fox.

The home side posed few problems in the first half but began to dominate after the interval, despite seeing Jay Rodriguez red carded on 62 minutes following an off-the-ball incident involving Matias.

Cameron Dawson had pulled off an excellent save to keep out a Hal Robson-Kanu
header and we looked to have survived mounting West Brom pressure in the closing stages until Jones turned the ball into his own net from a corner deep into added time.

The point sees us stay in 16th place, nine points above the relegation zone.

Dawson, Palmer, Lees, Hector, Fox, Bannan, Hutchinson (Jones 74), Reach (Pelupessy 36) Matias, Boyd, Nuhiu (Winnall 80). Unused subs: Wildsmith, Baker, Thorniley, Fletcher.
