Owls could freshen up ‘starting eleven’ for basement battle

Neil Thompson may well shuffle his starting line-up when Wednesday entertain Wycombe Wanderers in a bottom-of-the-table ‘six-pointer’ at Hillsborough tomorrow evening.

We go into the match on 25 points, one place and nine points clear of bottom club Wycombe, and three points from the safety zone.

Victory for Wednesday would take us above 21st-placed Derby on goal difference and out of the relegation spots, at the same time stretching our advantage over Wycombe to 12 points and leaving them with a mighty task to survive an instant return to division one.

We have no new injury problems for the game but caretaker boss Thompson may well freshen up the starting line-up, saying Wednesday “looked leggy” after the interval in the 4-1 defeat at Millwall on Saturday.

Kadeem Harris, Josh Windass, Julian Borner, Izzy Brown, Andre Green, Liam Shaw and Jordan  Rhodes – on the bench at The Den – could all come into consideration for a place from kick off as Wednesday also look to chalk up a fifth successive Championship home win.

Speaking after Saturday’s reverse, Thompson described the Wycombe clash as a “massive game” for Wednesday and talking further about the match this week, he said: “This will be a tough game, make no mistake about that. Wycombe are fighting for their lives and so are we.

“There are two teams desperate for the points. We have moved on from Millwall, that’s gone now, and we are now focussed completely on Wycombe.

“I have always said the most important game is the next one and nothing changes, this is the Championship and there are all kinds of challenges.”
