Owls beaten in pre-season friendly

Wednesday completed our six-day training camp in Portugal today with a 2-1 ‘behind closed doors’ friendly defeat to Premier League Bournemouth in the early evening Algarve sunshine.

Josh Windass tested Cherries keeper Mark Travers with an early strike but Bournemouth took the lead just before half time when Lewis Cook’s shot deflected off George Byers and past keeper David Stockdale.

Almost immediately, Windass was denied an equaliser by Travis and Bournemouth doubled their lead on 56 minutes with Dominic Solanke turning to fire home from inside the box.

Darren Moore made major changes just after the hour and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru pulled a goal back on 78 minutes, breaking clear of the Bournemouth defence and shooting home past Travers.

There was still time for sub keeper Cameron Dawson to tip over from Ben Greenwood and then to produce an excellent save to deny Jefferson Lerma from the resulting corner.

Wednesday: Stockdale (Dawson 65), Palmer, Iorfa, Henighan, Ihiekwe (Brown 64), James, Bannan (A Hunt 64), Dele-Bashiru (Galvin 80), Byers (Adeniran 64), Windass (Sow 64), Gregory (Paterson 64).
