New Matias blow … Fletcher out for season

Marco Matias has been ruled out for three weeks with a knee injury after winning his appeal against a three-match ban … while Steven Fletcher won’t play again this season.

Jos Luhukay told Thursday’s press conference that Matias picked up the injury in training and also confirmed that Fletcher is out for the rest of the campaign with his knee problem.

There was further bad news on the selection front, with Glenn Loovens not training this week due to illness, Jacob Butterfield also missing training this week and Joost van Aken being advised to rest a muscle injury.

Luhukay is hopeful that Fernando Forestieri will play again before the end of the season and confirmed that the player will return to England at the end of the month after having rehab in Italy.

He added that there is no timescale for a return to action for Kieran Lee after his hip surgery but dismissed rumours that he might have to retire.

Meanwhile, Tom Lees is planning a return to action for the under-23s next week.
