New boy Dielna could get instant call-up

New signing Claude Dielna could find himself going straight into the starting line-up when Wednesday travel to Bolton after the two-week international break.

Twenty-six-year-old defender Dielna joined us within hours of the 1-0 defeat to Forest – ending the Owls unbeaten start to the season – and with skipper Glenn Loovens picking up a fifth booking and a one-match ban, the Frenchman may well be pitched into first-team action at Bolton.

He can play in central defence or at left back and has signed a three-year deal after leaving Greek club Olympiakos.

Reflecting on the Forest defeat, where Wednesday could count themselves unlucky not to get at least a point, Gray said: “Sometimes in football you don’t get what you deserve and this was one of those occasions.

“I should be sitting here talking about a draw if not a win but we have nothing and that is disappointing.”

He added: “Full credit to the players because they have given absolutely everything. It’s the least I ask for when anyone pulls on a Sheffield Wednesday shirt and they have responded to a man.

“We pushed Forest all the way and we could be talking about a side who are the potential champions of the division.”
