Murphy in line for recall against Boro

Jacob Murphy is likely to be back in the Wednesday starting line-up for this evening’s season finale at home to Middlesbrough.

Murphy came on as a half-time sub at Fulham on Saturday and more than played his part in our improved attacking performance in the second 45 minutes – scoring once, being fouled for our penalty and assisting with the other goal.

Atdhe Nuhiu, who hit two of the goals at Fulham, could also be in the starting eleven in what may well be his last game in Wednesday colours after seven years at Hillsborough.

Kieran Lee, another player who might be saying farewell to S6 after eight outstanding years with the club, is expected to return to the squad tonight after injury.

Garry Monk has called for a victory over Boro, saying after the Fulham defeat: “I’ve said to the players at the end that we have to finish the season with three points, nothing less is acceptable.”

We go into the match eight points clear of the relegation zone but still awaiting the result of the independent hearing following an EFL misconduct charge, the outcome of which could be a points deduction.
