Moore’s rallying call to fans for second leg

Darren Moore has called on the Wednesday fans to be the 12th man for our play-off semi final second leg at a sellout Hillsborough on Monday evening.

Speaking after our 1-0 first leg defeat at the Stadium of Light in front of more than 44,000 fans, Moore said: “Sunderland’s fans were loud tonight, really loud, so what do I want from our fans on Monday?

“To be louder, simple as that. I could hear our supporters tonight high up in the stands and that was against 40-odd thousand Sunderland fans, so what could it be like at Hillsborough?

“They have to be our 12th man, get right behind the boys and sing your hearts out because the players appreciate it and thrive on it.”

Reflecting on the first leg defeat, Moore said: “The disappointing thing, in terms of the goal we gave away, was that it was avoidable. I don’t know, maybe Sam thought he was going to play it back but he sort of opened his body up too much for Ross to come through and he took the goal very well.”

He added: “Sam’s disappointed, but he was one of them that I said ‘come on, it has gone now’ at half time. When we score, we score as a team and when we concede, we concede as a team.

“I didn’t think we were that good in possession of the ball, I didn’t think we used it as well as we can do. But what I’ve got to credit the boys for is they were spirited, dogged and stayed in the game.

“Coming here we knew it was going to be a very difficult game and when the crowd gets up like this it’s a very difficult place.”
