Monk: We have to be better than that

Garry Monk has called for much-improved performances after watching Wednesday’s woeful home defeat to Luton today.

Speaking after the 1-0 reverse, Monk said: “We have to improve, we have to be better than that. It wasn’t good enough and we will be back in training tomorrow.”

Coming on top of the midweek defeat to Brentford at S6, he added: “Losing two games in a row is disappointing and frustrating but we have to keep a level head. It’s a difficult situation for everyone. We have to pick ourselves up and get ready for the next game.

“We need that belief and confidence to come back here. We have to stick together and keep fighting.”

The Owls boss said that we are not getting the breaks at the moment, feeling that a red card for Joost van Aken’s tackle was a soft decision, also pointing to Aden Flint’s disallowed goal and to our penalty claims when Kadeem Harris appeared to be pulled back in the box in the dying minutes.

However, he also said:  “I’m not making excuses, we weren’t good enough today.”

On the injury front, we wait to see if any of injured trio – Tom Lees, Dominic Iorfa and Izzy Brown – are ready to return for Wednesday’s short trip to Rotherham, although Massimo Luongo will not have recovered from his knee problem in time for the game.
