Monk ‘lost for words’ after thrashing

Garry Monk said he was lost for words after Wednesday’s 5-0 capitulation at Brentford this afternoon.

We were two goals down inside 20 minutes through goals from Josh Dasilva and Emiliano Marcondes, had a short spell where we were more competitive but a third Bees goal by Bryan Mbeumo just before the break all but ended the game as a contest.

Any lingering hopes of a revival never materialised and Brentford were able to score two more goals at ease in the closing stages, Dasilva with his second and another from Tariqe Fosu.

Monk said afterwards; “I’m lost for words after that – it’s the first time I can say that in my career.

“The only thing I can say to the fans is that I apologise. They should not have to see a performance like that.

“It was embarrassing and I’m tired of sitting here saying the same things and listening to my own voice.”

The defeat sees Wednesday slump to 15th place and, with a possible EFL points deduction on the horizon, we sit only nine points above the relegation zone.

Dawson, Palmer, Lees, Iorfa, Fox, Murphy, Bannan, Pelupessy, Da Cruz (Forestieri 46), Windass (Wickham 46), Fletcher (Harris 64). Unused subs: Wildsmith, Urhoghide, Hunt, Nuhiu.
