Monk considers starting place for Fletcher

We wait to see if Steven Fletcher’s influential appearance as a second-half sub in midweek will see Garry Monk give the striker a place in the starting line-up at home to Derby tomorrow.

Fletcher’s 33-minute cameo performance saw him immediately causing problems for the Charlton defence, also seemingly putting an extra spring in the step of team-mates and culminating in his 95th minute winner.

Monk said that while Fletcher is not yet fully fit he will be considered for a place in the starting line-up against the Rams.

Adam Reach (toe), Massimo Luongo (calf) and Moses Odubajo (hamstring) all miss out again but are expected to return to training next week.

The victory over Charlton, only our second in 12 league games, takes us back to 12th spot and eight points from the play-off places, while Derby sit in 15th, three points behind us.

Monk said: “We need to build a good accumulation of points now and need to use our last two performances as a springboard.

“We know that if we play to the type of standard we have done in the last two games, with the attitude that we have had and the quality we have shown then we can cause problems to them.

“That’s what we have to do and that’s what we have to give our all for.”
