Madine at the double as Owls stretch unbeaten run to 7 games

Two second-half goals from Gary Madine took Wednesday back to second place in league one – for just a few hours – in the lunchtime game with Preston.

Madine struck with a fierce angled drive and then a header to secure the points and our seventh game without defeat. Sheff U then regained second place with a one-goal win at Hartlepool to stay two points ahead of us and Charlton remain eight points clear after a two-goal home win over Leyton Orient.

However, fourth-placed Huddersfield went down 2-1 at Carlisle so we are now six points clear of them, having played a game more, MK Dons, in fifth, were beaten 2-1 at home to Brentford so trail us by 10 points, with Carlisle a further thre points behind in sixth, having played a game less.
