Milan’s update on club takeover

Milan Mandaric says he is still hopeful that Hafiz Mammadov will become Wednesday’s new owner.

After a frustrating summer of takeover delays, Mandaric said today that it was issues in his home country of Azerbaijan that had held up Mammadov’s plans.

He said the would-be chief had apologised for the situation but had given assurances that he intends to complete the deal as quickly as possible.

Mandaric said: “I still believe that Mr Mammadov will be a wonderful owner of this football club and his vision for the future compels me to resist any temptation at the moment to terminate the process and open new discussions with other potential interested parties who have contacted me during the process.”

At the same time, he added that there could come a time when he was not willing to allow the Mammadov takeover process to continue.

He added that, in the meantime, he will continue to give full support to Stuart Gray and that he will continue to update fans on the situation.
