Milan matches asking price for striker

Wednesday have seemingly stepped up their bid to bring St Johnstone’s Stevie May to Hillsborough with Milan Mandaric said to have agreed to match the Scottish club’s valuation of the young striker.

The 21-year-old hit 27 goals last season and it is thought it would need a seven-figure sum to bring him to S6.

St Johnstone manager, Tommy Wright, said Wednesday came in with the bid yesterday afternoon but that any deal would be put on hold until after tomorrow’s away Europa League tie with Spartak Trnava.

May was expected to travel with the squad and be in the starting line-up tomorrow. If he does play and then joins Wednesday on his return, that could put a question mark over him being in good enough shape to make his debut at Brighton on Saturday.
