Megson rues defending at set pieces after another defeat

Gary Megson was left cursing another goal conceded from a set piece as Wednesday slumped to a second successive defeat at home to Stevenage on Tuesday evening.

Scott Laird grabbed the only goal from a Stevenage corner just before half-time, leaving Megson to say: “People are switching off at set pieces when we are defending and it is killing us at the moment.”

Talking about the other end of the field, he said: “We had 11 corners but didn’t attack them properly and had 10 shots to their two and didn’t make them count.”

Megson said he was happier with the commitment of the team compared to Saturday’s defeat at Exeter and, although the Stevenage reverse drops us back to third spot behind Charlton and Sheff U, he added: “There is still lots of football to be played before the end of the season and plenty of twists and turns.”

The Owls boss also revealed that Ryan Lowe and John Bostock were both due to be in the starting line-up on Tuesday but had to pull out, Lowe getting a calf injury in training and Bostock suffering from a virus.
