McGugan recovers after injury scare

Lewis McGugan was able to take his place on the bench for the second half of the Blackburn victory after being knocked unconscious in a clash of heads.

The loanee midfielder was waiting to head the ball, with feet firmly on the ground, when he was knocked to the floor as Rovers’ Lee Williamson launched an aerial challenge from behind, ten minutes from half-time.

McGugan was stretchered from the field in a neck brace and Gray said: “Lewis was knocked spark out and I actually thought it was a foul. But my concern was with Lewis as soon as it became clear he was knocked out.

“The neck brace was a precaution and I was really pleased and relieved to see Lewis take his place on the bench in the second half. The medical team will give us a full assessment and hopefully he will be fine.”
