McCabe strikes out for Football League award

Rhys McCabe’s cracking wolley against Charlton has been voted Wednesday’s goal of 2012 and will be our entry in the Mitre Goal of the Year category in the Football League Awards 2013.

McCabe’s spectacular 20-yarder helped us to an important win over the Londoners just before Christmas and, with 24 per cent of the votes, edged out two other memorable Owls goals from the calendar year.

Michail Antonio’s tremendous late winner against Carlisle in April in our surge towards promotion was in second place, winning 20 per cent of the votes, while in third place with 15 per cent was Chris O’Grady’s brilliant header which saw us beat Sheff U in the S6 derby last February … Gary Megson’s last game in charge.
