May day for Owls as Stevie hits double

Stevie May bagged a double as Wednesday secured a much-needed first win in 12 games against Wigan.

Jose Semedo had hit a post from the edge of the box before May struck on 27 minutes, slotting the ball home from eight yards after being set up by Atdhe Nuhiu … and that within seconds of Wigan having taken the lead through Chris McCann.

Wigan looked dangerous on the counter attack but we clinched the points 20 minutes from time when May’s header from a Chris Maguire cross agonisingly hit both posts before crossing the line.

While Wigan could point to goal-line clearances from Liam Palmer and Lewis McGugan in the second-half, May missed a great chance for his hat-trick, latching onto Maguire’s through ball only to be foiled by ex-Owl loanee Scott Carson.
