Marshall set for action . . . but is it a fond farewell to S6?

Ben Marshall is set to return to the Wednesday line-up for Saturday’s promotion clash with Charlton – in what could be his farewell performance for the Owls.

Marhsall’s impressive loan spell from Stoke comes to an end after the visit of the league leaders to Hillsborough, he has yet to agree new terms with the Potters and with other clubs reportedly interested in signing him, Gary Megson may feel his best chance to land the 20-year-old is to make a bid for the winger, rather than trying to extend his loan period.

Wednesdayites will be hoping for a five-star ‘farewell’ display from Marshall on Saturday, with Megson also having midweek signing Mike Jones available, following his transfer from Bury.

Up front, he has to decide whether to recall Ryan Lowe to the starting line-up after Clinton Morrison stepped up and impressed in last weekend’s FA Cup win over West Ham, and James Tavernier has returned to Newcastle after his loan spell.

Lewis Buxton and Gary Madine continue their recovery from injury, Madine playing 30 minutes in a midweek outing behind closed doors against Hull, and Megson may be tempted to put the striker on the bench for the Charlton clash.

Wednesday expect a 25,000-plus crowd for a game which would see victory take us to within two points of Charlton.

* Giles Coke has returned to Bury for another loan spell and will stay at Gigg Lane until the end of the season.
