Marriott ready to return to Hillsborough for rest of season

Jack Marriott looks set to see out the season with Wednesday after his parent club, Derby, decided not to activate a recall clause on his season-long loan.

The striker returned to Derby in October after suffering a calf injury, having made seven appearances for us – three as sub – and failing to find the net in those games.

His Hillsborough future looked to be in doubt but he is now fit again and new Derby boss, Wayne Rooney, said today: “I felt the way I want to move forward, it was best for Jack to go back to Sheffield Wednesday. He is fit and he has been back training for two or three weeks now.

“He is a good player but in terms of how I see this club moving forward I felt it was better to focus on other players and let Jack go and play because I couldn’t guarantee him playing here.”
