Marathon man Jim completes year on road

Wednesdayite and former London Owl, Jim Morton, has today chalked up one year on the road in his marathon walk around the entire coastline of Great Britain.

Jim, who was a member of our club in the late seventies and early eighties, has about 2,000 miles to go in his amazing 7,500-mile trek and has today reached Pegwell Bay on the Kent coast.

For any London Owls who live in the Kent, Sussex and Surrey areas you might also see Jim on Meridian News tonight or tomorrow as they were filming him today to celebrate the first anniversary.

The interview, if shown, should also be available later from the Meridian website.

Jim is raising money for the Gurkha Welfare Trust to rebuild homes destroyed in an earthquake in Nepal and the fund currently stands at £18,600 – enough to build two new homes.

If you wish to support the cause then you can go to Jim’s justgiving page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/richard-morton11 to make a donation and you can follow his daily progress on his ‘I may be gone a while’ page on both Facebook and Instagram.

Jim, who is accompanied by his wife, Sue, westies Maisie and Shona and the motorhome, is hoping to complete the remarkable trip in July or August on his return home to Penistone.

In the meantime, it’s huge congratulations, Jim, on your tremendous achievement and good luck ftom London Owls all over the world for the rest of your trip.
