Mandaric speaks out over Jones’ position at Hillsborough

Milan Mandaric has commented about the managerial situation at Hillsborough amidst growing unrest from some fans over Dave Jones.

Despite our shocking start to the season, the chairman has kept his views over the manager’s future largely to himself. However, following last Saturday’s dismal showing at Derby, Mandaric is reported as saying: “Obviously, many of my media friends start feeling trigger happy and expect me to as well. I actually believe we are a better team than we appear to be.

“But you can’t go on saying that. It’s a results game and every manager is under pressure when things aren’t working out – it’s no different here.

“You have to be careful not to act too hastily but obviously you keep looking at things very closely.

“It wouldn’t be right for me to say everything’s fine because it isn’t and my reputation is on the line as much as David’s as a manager.”

With just one win this season – coupled with a solitary victory in the final five games of the last campaign when we were almost relegated – these comments from Mandaric would suggest that anything but a win at home to Huddersfield next Saturday will put a major question mark over Jones’ future at S6.
