Madine trains with Carlisle while awaiting sentence

Gary Madine is training with his former club, Carlisle United, while he awaits sentencing following his recent crown court trial.

Madine, who was found guilty of assault charges, was warned by the judge to expect a prison sentence and Dave Jones said on Saturday that Wednesday would not be making a statement on his future until after the court’s decision is announced in the coming weeks.

Carlisle have confirmed that the player contacted them earlier this week to ask if he could train at Brunton Park and caretaker manager Graham Kavanagh – a former loanee at Hillsborough – said: “I had a chat with Dave Jones and he is delighted that we are able to help. We know Gary and he knows us, and he is obviously feeling very low at the moment.

“We have no problem at all in helping him to stay fit. He has trained with us and he has worked exceptionally hard, and we’ll continue to allow that to happen as long as it works for all parties.”
