Madine faces likely jail term after guilty verdicts

Gary Madine faces a likely jail sentence after he was found guilty of assaulting two men – one a Wednesday fan – in separate attacks in Sheffield bars.

Madine was released on bail after the jury’s verdict at Leeds Crown Court today but Judge Rodney Jameson QC told him: “You must understand that an immediate custodial sentence is very likely.”

No date has yet been set for sentencing.

The Wednesday striker was found guilty of actual bodily harm against Owls supporter Daniel Beresford but cleared of causing grievous bodily harm to the same person. He was also found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to a Sheffield United fan – Reece Hall – but found not guilty on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent on Mr Hall.
