Late leveller from Lucas earns point

Lucas Joao proved Wednesday’s saviour again as the Owls twice came from behind to grab a late point at Blackburn this afternoon.

Joao, who struck twice as a substitute last Saturday, again came on at half time at Ewood Park and headed an 84th minute equaliser to earn Wednesday the draw.

Blackburn had twice taken the lead from set pieces through Hope Akpan (4) and Corry Evans (43), with Modou Sougou hitting our first equaliser on 38 minutes after Kieran Lee’s effort came back off the woodwork.

It was a below-par first 45 minutes from the Owls but a different story in the second half as we dominated the game following the half-time introduction of Joao and Gary Hooper.

Loanee Hooper might have levelled as Wednesday began to take charge and the pressure finally paid off when Joao nodded home six minutes from time to ensure a well-earned point.

With sixth-placed Birmingham losing at Brighton, Wednesday are now on level points with the Blues and only below them and Ipswich in seventh on goal difference.
