‘Lack of concentration and errors so costly’

Garry Monk said a lack of concentration and individual errors were responsible for Wednesday throwing away three points in the closing minutes of the 2-1 defeat at Blackburn.

Josh Murphy’s 84th minute header looked to have put us on the way to another victory and fourth place in the Championship, before the home side struck in the 89th and 92nd minutes to see us leave Ewood Park pointless.

Monk said: “It’s a sickener, there’s no two ways about it. We are disappointed.”

He said the game had gone to plan until then, with Wednesday ensuring they were still in the match with 30 minutes remaining, having the opportunity to push on further at that stage and taking the lead.

Monk added: “We knew it would be a tough test, but we did well for the majority of the game and earned the lead.

“From that position we shouldn’t have lost the game but individual errors and a lack of concentration have cost us the win.

“These things happen in football, but we know we can learn from this and make sure that it doesn’t happen again.”
