Kirkland set to keep his place for Valley clash

Chris Kirkland is expected to retain his place for Sunday’s meeting with Charlton at the Valley.

Kirkland got the nod over Damian Martinez at Blackburn, with caretaker boss Stuart Gray explaining: “I just felt we needed his experience for such a game and I’m really pleased for Chris that he got a clean sheet.”

He also indicated that Kirkland’s experience would again make him first choice against Charlton, with the Owls going into the game knowing that victory would take us to within a point of the Londoners.

Gray’s after-match reflections on the Blackburn match included special praise for striker Atdhe Nuhiu, who he said was “just not getting the breaks in front of goal”.
