Kirkland and Wickham set to return to face Leeds

Wednesday should be boosted by the return of Chris Kirkland and Connor Wickham for tomorrow’s lunchtime TV showdown with Leeds at Hillsborough.

Kirkland was rested for the Macclesfield FA Cup tie after suffering a slight back problem while Wickham had to sit the game out as Sunderland did not want him cup-tied. Caolan Lavery, recalled from his loan spell at Plymouth, could get a place in the squad.

Caretaker boss Stuart Gray also has to decide how to replace Roger Johnson in the centre of defence. Miguel Llera is the obvious choice, unless Gray chooses to move Reda Johnson into the middle and bring Joe Mattock in at left back.

Meanwhile, keeper Aaron Jameson has joined Bradford City on an emergency loan for a month.
