Keiren boosts World Cup call-up hopes

Keiren Westwood played the second 45 minutes as the Republic of Ireland defeated Uruguay 3-1 in a friendly in Dublin.

The Wednesday keeper replaced Darren Randolph at half-time, the West Ham stopper having been at fault with Uruguay’s equaliser from Jose Gimenez.

Westwood then boosted his chances of a starting place in next weekend’s World Cup qualifier with Austria, pulling off an excellent stop to deny Gimenez a second equaliser before the Republic ensured victory with a third goal.
