Keeping feet on ground after winning start

Carlos Carvalhal was not getting carried away following Wednesday’s opening day win over Bristol City.

After seeing second-half goals from Tom Lees and Lewis McGugan earn three deserved points, Carvalhal said: “I am happy, the supporters are happy, and that is all we can ask for after the first game of the season.

“But I know that this is only the start, the first run of a long marathon.”
Summer signings Marco Matias and Alex Lopez missed our two best openings of the first-half before Lees headed home on the hour and then McGugan struck 10 minutes later, converting Ross Wallace’s cross and within 90 seconds of clearing a rare City effort off the line at the other end.
Matias missed another great chance to score a third goal in added time when subs Lucas Joao and Kieran Lee created the opening with our best move of the game, only for Matias to shoot wide at the far post.
