Keeper goes out on loan deal

Young Wednesday keeper Joe Wildsmith has joined South Yorkshire neighbours Barnsley on a month’s youth loan.

The Academy product has made occasional appearances on the bench this season but has largely been third choice behind Keiren Westwood and Chris Kirkland.

Play-off chasing Barnsley have taken 19-year-old Wildsmith to Oakwell, with first choice Adam Davies struggling with an abductor injury, Ross Turnbull out for the season and Christian Dibble on international duty with Wales.

That means Wildsmith could find himself pitched straight into first team action for the clash at league leaders Bristol City on Saturday.
