Kachunga ready for action in curtain-raiser

Elias Kachunga is set to take his place in the Wednesday squad for Saturday’s Championship opener at Cardiff.

Kachunga, who joined us earlier this month after being freed by Huddersfield, has been in full training this week and is likely to go straight into the starting line-up.

Matt Penney could also be in contention after impressing as a second-half sub at Walsall and we wait to see whether Garry Monk decides on Cameron Dawson or Joe Wildsmith in goal.

The Walsall game also saw us start without a recognised striker but both Josh Windass and Jordan Rhodes came on from the bench during the second half and Garry Monk may well start with at least one of them at Cardiff.

We begin the season with a minus 12 points punishment but Monk said: “We know we have to be as full on as we can in every single game right from the off because of the disadvantage we have.

“I don’t mean it in a way that we are going to go out there and just do what we want. We have to be organised, structured and go out with a no fear attitude.

“We have to attack it head on and that is what we are going to try and do.”
