Jos makes mark ahead of Sheff U clash

New boss Jos Luhukay has been putting the Wednesday players well and truly through their paces during his first week at the Hillsborough helm.

He arrived at S6 with a reputation for being a disciplinarian and the early signs are that the he is looking to ensure the squad is in shape, both physically and mentally, for the rest of the season.

Luhukay faces a baptism of fire for his first game in charge at Bramall Lane on Friday night and with limited numbers to choose from due to a catalogue of injuries, he has hinted that one or two of the under-23 set-up could be in the matchday squad.

It certainly appears that he is already bringing more discipline and organisation to the group and George Boyd, who returned to first team action at Carlisle last Saturday after a lengthy injury lay-off, told the press: “It’s little things like meetings, the times we eat, when we have to be in for and having double sessions most days.

“Discipline is definitely a big change in these last few days. No-one has been late. Being in for certain times, we haven’t had that before.”

Boyd also said: “Training has been a lot harder, which we needed. He is in-depth and there has been a lot of meetings for him to implement his ideas. That has been good.

“We weren’t fit enough. The training has been different, a lot more high intensity. Even when Lee Bullen came in, the intensity went up a lot. We need to be fitter and this will help.”
