Jos looks to bring stability to Wednesday

New boss Jos Luhukay says his first task is to bring stability and confidence to Wednesday after our recent dismal run.

Speaking at a press conference on his first day at S6, Luhukay said: “We will play good football but it is important that we now need to give the team stability as it does not have so much confidence at this moment.”

Just one win in the last 10 Championship games has seen us slump to 16th place and only six points from the relegation zone, with the small matter of a derby clash with Sheff U at Bramall Lane on Friday night.

Luhukay said: “Now we must prepare for Friday’s match. Then, step by step and game by game, I hope that I give the team a lot of confidence and I hope that the fans will be happy with what they see and how we play football.”

Referring to the derby, he said: “It is a highlight day … derbies everywhere in every country are highlight days. Emotion, atmosphere, passion … those are the things we will be feeling and I hope the players become more motivated to play football.”

He said the current crop of injuries also provides an opportunity for those who have come in to the squad to impress him and added that he needs to get to know all the players better, as footballers but also as people.

Luhukay will also have Remy Reynierse as his assistant, Reynierse having taken the same position when Luhukay was in charge at Stuttgart for a short period in 2016 – his last managerial post.

Chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, said the appointment had been a difficult decision as there had been some excellent candidates but he continued: “Jos fits with my philosophy and what we need now … I think Jos has the principles and discipline that we require.”

He added: “Jos needs to finish it off to bring us to the Premier League. As far as timescale goes, that is as soon as he can.”

The chairman said it was not club policy to discuss lengths of contract in public but, with regard to the January transfer window and bringing in fresh faces, said he would do his best to provide what we need.
