Jones to step up striker search after Forest blank

Dave Jones will be stepping up his bid to bring in a new striker before next week’s emergency loan deadline after a scoreless display in the defeat at Forest on Saturday.

Jones said: “It doesn’t matter what formation we play, we will create chances. They are a great bunch of lads, they work so hard, and they are very frustrated in the dressing room right now because they know that we are not that far away.

“It’s that finishing touch, that composure in the final third and we will continue the search to bring someone else in.”

A possible loan move for Sunderland’s Connor Wickham has been ruled out by their boss Martin O’Neill. He confirmed our interest but said their squad is too stretched at the moment and with a spate of games approaching they woud not be letting Wickham leave on loan.

Reflecting further on the Forest performance, Dave Jones said: “I am starting to sound like a broken record but what more do we have to do? We have created plenty of chances, we have had them pinned back but if we don’t score the goals, we don’t win the games.

“We should have had the game sewn up long before they scored and when they did it was from an own goal.

“We have been beaten by a Nottingham Forest side that has aspirations for the Premiership but we have matched them and played well.

“However, we are missing that edge and composure in front of goal.”
