Jones: Subbed Kirkland was ‘feeling unwell’

Chris Kirkland ‘s surprise first-half substitution against Rangers was because the keeper was feeling unwell.

Dave Jones revealed that Kirkland had felt ill on Tuesday but felt okay to start the friendly. However, he began to suffer again during the early stages of the game and was withdrawn after 30 minutes, giving Adam Davies a chance for ‘first-team’ action.

Jones said: “Adam came on and got some good game time and that will be a great experience for him, too.”

Reflecting on the overall performance, Jones said: “I was pleased with the way we played in parts but we are still getting there and we have played here tonight on the back of a lot of recent travelling.

“It was a good game and a good test.”
