Jones salutes ‘battling perfomance’

Dave Jones praised Wednesday’s fighting spirit as we held out for a precious three points in the ‘six-pointer’ derby at Barnsley.

After finding ourselves on the back foot for much of the second half, Jones said: “The second half was a battle, we knew it would be, and the players put their bodies on the line to earn the points – they showed alll the characteristics you need.”

Referee Stuart Attwell allowed Wednesday’s first-half goal to stand when Gary Madine looked to have fouled home keeper Luke Steele … and then gave little to the Owls after the break.

Jones said: “I thought the referee had an absolute shocker. Maybe it was our turn to have a bit of luck today and it was important we kept our heads and kept plugging away.”

The manager said the team had made their own luck and that it is going to take big hearts going forward to turn the season around.

Victory takes us onto 18 points, two clear of bottom club Peterborough and level on points with Barnsley and Bristol City, who are both above us on goal dfference.
