Jones: One slip cost us the game

Dave Jones said Wednesday paid the price for switching off once as they slipped to a single goal defeat at Cardiff.

Reflecting on the game, which saw his former club go the top of the Championship while Wednesday made it six defeats in a row, Jones said Wednesday worked really hard, only to pay for the mistake 10 minutes from time, allowing Craig Conway to fire home after the ball was headed down on the edge of the penalty area.

Jones said: “We had three chances to clear the ball, we didn’t and it has cost us the game.”

Referring to the surprise inclusion of David Prutton in midifeld, Jones said: “He did brilliantly. He’s an experienced player and we felt we needed that to get a grip of things.”

The Owls boss said Wednsday had worked hard to stay in the game, that there were large spells when Cardiff found themselves with nowhere to go and, as the game wore on, we also began to take the game to the hosts.

Looking forward, he added: “It’s hard to take … but if do the right things all the time then we will get results.”
