Jones missing from touchline in Elland Road clash

Dave Jones won’t be on the touchline for the derby clash with Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday after receiving a two-game ban.

The FA delivered the suspension after Jones was charged with misconduct following the recent game at Ashton Gate, when he was unhappy with the late Bristol City equaliser.

The Owls boss already had a suspended one-match ban from his touchline altercation during the Brighton game in February and this has been automatically invoked following his criticism of the referee at Bristol.

It could be a blessing in disguise for Jones, who will be assured of a hostile reception from the Leeds fans on Saturday following his criticism of them in the aftermath of the stormy S6 clash in October. The ban means that any chants and abuse directed at the manager will at least be tempered by the fact that he is in the stand, rather than in the technical area.

His second match ban takes in the away game at Blackpool next Tuesday evening.
