Jones: I’ve no regrets over selling O’Grady

Dave Jones says he has no regrets about selling Chris O’Grady as Wednesday prepare to face their former striker in the ‘bottom-of-the-table’ derby clash against Barnsley on Saturday.

O’Grady, who scored two goals in Barnsley’s win over Middlesbrough last Saturday and has proved to be a fans’ favourite at Oakwell since moving from the Owls, didn’t figure in Jones’ plans after he took over from Gary Megson and made a move to the Reds.

On the eve of the trip to Barnsley and with Wednesday still searching for their first win of the season, Jones said: “Sometimes moving a player out and finding another club is a benefit to him and way they play.”

He added: “I have no regrets and I am sure Chris has no regrets. There is no animosity whatsoever.

“People always think that because you are letting someone go there is always animosity between you – there isn’t. He decided this was the best place for him, he went to Barnsley, he’s done well and scored some goals … he might just have found the club that suits him.”
