Jones blasts referee after ‘forearm smash’ on Kirkland

Dave Jones branded referee Darren Deadman’s decision “a disgrace” after he allowed Bristol City’s injury-time equaliser at Ashton Gate.

Jones felt Chris Kirkland was fouled in an aerial challenge, the loose ball then dropping to Sam Baldock who fired home to secure a point for bottom-of-the-table City.

However, the Owls boss fumed afterwards: “That was a disgrace. Their lad has forearm smashed our keeper.

“Every time I look at the video it gets worse. The ref knows he’s made a mistake, why he has allowed it I haven’t a clue.

“Anywhere else on the pitch and he would have given a foul. But he’ll go home tonight and won’t give a hoot about it.”

Jones said he felt that City posed few problems once Wednesday had settled, following a lively opening spell from the home side. However, he said we allowed Bristol to put the ball into the box on too many occcasions, particularly by conceding free kicks, and defended too deeply in the closing minutes.
