Jones begins planning for the way ahead

Dave Jones says he can now move forward with the next steps in his Hillsborough building work after the team secured our Championship future on Saturday.

Speaking after the Middlesbrough success, Jones said: “Now we can move on to block two in our building work – in fact it has already started.

“All the players are in on Tuesday. It will be a chance to say goodbye to the ones who are going to be released … and we have also got some loans who will be going back.”

Jones admitted he was feeling tired after one of his hardest seasons in management and added that there are lots of decisions to be made in talks over the next few days with the chairman and chief executive.

He said we now have a good academy set-up, with some good players coming through, and referring to future plans, added: “We are going to have to do it in a process where there aren’t millions to spend. That means we have got to make sure the foundation is solid – and lots of clubs have done it that way.”
