Jones: Red card was ‘stupidity’ … JJ says sorry …

Dave Jones has slammed winger Jermaine Johnson for his needless sending off during our Capital One Cup defeat at Rotherham tonight.

JJ, who came on as a second-half substitute, was shown a straight red card 13 minutes from time for headbutting Rotherham’s Ben Pringle and now faces an automatic three-match ban.

A furious Jones said: “That was just stupidity and it is not acceptable at this football club. I can’t defend it – and neither can JJ.

“We were trying to get back into the game at that stage, it was tough enough with 11 players – let alone going down to 10 men.”

JJ, who has had disciplinary problems at times during his career at Hillsborough, is likely to also face punishment from the club after this latest episode.

He said on Twitter: “Not looking for no one to be sorry for me. I just want to apologise to all the fans that came to the game tonight …

“Know it’s not acceptable, but I really wanna say I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart for what happened tonight … hope I can make it up to you guys.”
