Joao can become top player says Carlos

Lucas Joao is very much a striker for the future says head coach Carlos Carvalhal.

The 21-year-old came on as a second-half substitute against St Mirren, just 24 hours after joining the Owls, and Carvalhal said afterwards: “He’s a very young player, one for the future, and the fans need to be patient with him.”

Carvalhal said his knowledge of the player meant that he was able to “anticipate the situation” and sign Joao before he possibly moved to a leading club in Portugal, such as Benfica or Sporting Lisbon.

He added: “Lucas has all the abilities to be a top player.”
