Joao at double but little else to cheer

Two Lucas Joao goals gave Wednesday a fortunate 2-2 draw against Rotherham at Hillsborough.

It was another poor display from the Owls, with more chants for manager Jos Luhukay to leave the club as our run stretched to just five points from the last 27.

Joso slotted us in front from Adam Reach’s through ball just before the end of a first half dominated by Rotherham and the visitors were deservedly level straight after half time thanks to Michael Smith.

Worse followed nine minutes later when Cameron Dawson made a hash of Richard Towell’s low long-ranger and the Millers were ahead.

Joao struck again on 65 minutes when he headed home Daniel Pudil’s cross but Wednesday rarely threatened to grab a winner with Atdhe Nuhiu shooting well over the top from close range in a rare opening.

At the other end, Rotherham will be rueing two good chances which they failed to convert and the final whistle was greeted with boos and more chants of ‘We want Jos out’ from many of the 24,725 crowd.

We now sit in 17th place, five points off the relegation places.
