JJ sent off as Wednesday crash out of cup at Rotherham

Jermaine Johnson saw red as Wednesday crashed out of the Capital One Cup on a night to forget at division one neighbours Rotherham.

The home side showed far more desire and urgency in the first-half and led 2-1 at the interval after excellent efforts from Ben Pringle (10 minutes) and Lee Frecklington (38) – Rhys McCabe briefly bringing the Owls level with a long-range free kick on 23 minutes.

Dave Jones sent Wednesday out early for the second-half but while Rotherham, not surprisingly, didn’t match the tempo of the first-half the Owls lacked ideas and inspiration and rarely looked like getting back into the tie.

And a sorry night was capped when Johnson was shown a straight red card for headbutting Pringle and now faces an automatic ban.
