It’s going to be a busy time on transfer front says Jones

Dave Jones

Dave Jones says he expects to be “pretty busy” in the build-up to the closure of the transfer window on Thursday night.

Jones has signed Leroy Lita and Danny Pugh on loan in recent days and last night Jeremy Helan returned to S6 until the end of the season. In addition,  Jones said Wednesday have had offers from other clubs for players – all with a view to loan deals rather than permanent transfers.

He said he needs to consider the approaches carefully and, if players do move out, then he may be able to bring more fresh faces into the squad.

The Owls boss added that, even if deals do not go through by the end of the window, it could be that Wednesday will still bring in loan players after that time – including from Premier League clubs who may have players they do not transfer by Thursday night but then may be happy to loan out.

Talking about the u-turn which saw Helan back at Hillsborough on loan for the rest of the season, rather than a permanent move to Watford, Jones confirmed that the Hornets’ deal had broken down and that Helan had always said that if he was to go out on loan again then we were the only club he wanted to join.

Reflecting on the player’s progress at S6, Jones said: “It wasn’t much more than a month ago that he couldn’t get into the Shrewsbury first team when on loan there. Now I understand that the Watford transfer would have been for a fee of around £800,000 . . . we’re just pleased to have the boy back.”

He also didn’t rule out a permanent move for Helan at a later stage.
